Just like Velvet has said, OC stands for original character. There is also the term 'fursona' which, similar to OCs, are considered your 'persona' in "fur" form. For example, I have Louis who, as a lion, is my alter-ego. Louis (Louie) is pretty much me as a lion.. He's an odd character, I'll explain him to you at a later date. Original characters are created for many different reasons. I, personally, use them just for one. However, most of mine (unfortunately) have been 'adopted'. People create the character, and you buy it. I think it's really useful, especially when you have no idea on what to draw. OCs can come in anything really; animals, people, anthromorphic creatures, mythical creatures, even fruit. Yes, I've seen fruit OCs out there. Hope I've answered your question?
